Vinyl Log Siding
Although real log gives a little bit of extra character and atmosphere to a cabin or a home, but the introduction of vinyl log siding gives a new and more practical option to homeowners. There are a lot of considerations when you use a real log siding. To start with, real log siding will constantly cost you for insect pest treatment, sealing, and staining. And, real log cost higher than vinyl log siding upfront.
Vinyl is made of plastic so that you don't need to worry about costly and hazardous wood treatment. If you want, you can choose to paint your vinyl log siding, too. But this is really not necessary considering that vinyl log siding already comes with color and texture that mimics the look and feel of a real log. Unlike real log though, you don't have to worry about splinters, which can be injurious to you and your family if left unnoticed.
Vinyl log siding didn't miss the look of real logs. Some people couldn't even tell it is plastic even in proximity. The maintenance of a vinyl log siding is as easy as power washing it with a readily available cleaning agent for vinyl. Maintenance is a lot cheaper than wood that needs to be re-polished to look like new again. Insulating a cabin with vinyl log siding is easier, too. The polystyrene insulation that can be slipped behind the siding traps heat inside during winter, and it prevents heat gain during summer - just like natural logs do.
What about the installation you ask? Vinyl log siding is installed just like regular vinyl siding. In fact, you don't need window and door trim to install log siding because newer vinyl log siding can be installed using a J-channel around windows and doors also.
If you're after what's practicable for your log cabin, then vinyl log siding is definitely the winning cladding material for you. You get the natural look of a log cabin with the least upfront cost, plus, maintenance is a lot cheaper than real logs also.
